SAO National Director, Florence Soobi officially launches the church

SAO Uganda aims at seeing a holistically developed child within the community through empowering vulnerable women, communities and households to become self-reliant and support their children to attain full potential. To achieve the above, SAO works with the church because it is at the center of all activities that contribute to a holistically developed child. Additionally, through the church, communities are empowered to provide for holistic child development. It is therefore for this reason that SAO through the Community and Church Mobilization Process (CCMP) with support from Tear Fund selected a number of Baptist churches in Masaka to engage in socio-economic development. Luti Baptist church in Lwengo is one of those churches and at the time it was selected, it was in a temporary structure with a few members. However, through the CCMP project community members were trained to identify their God given resources to come out of poverty through credit and saving schemes. With the acquired skills, members of the church got involved in different income generating activities through which they have raised money to look after their families, and construct a permanent church. According to George William Ssenkima the Pastor of Luti Baptist Church, “Through their active involvement in CCMP activities, church members and the community made bricks. They also collected funds from community members, friends and well-wishers to build the church that was launched on July 22, 2017.” He explains that they used about UGX 35,000,000 to build the 300 seater church and during the launch, the community’s excitement about their achievement was evident as they thanked God through praise and worship songs. While giving the sermon during the launch, Florence Soobi, SAO’s National Director appreciated the good work the members had done and encouraged them to keep working as one. She read from the book of 2 Chronicles 2:1-18 which tells the story of King Solomon and how he prepared to build the Lord’s temple. Solomon chose the best materials and skilled men who were perfect in their work. She therefore commended the church leaders for choosing the best for God’s temple like Solomon.
