Lutaya is one of the beneficiaries of Share an Opportunity Uganda’s Youth group in Awach sub-county in Abim District. Through the skills he has acquired, the 27-year-old has managed to transfer the skills learnt to his community. He has employed and mentored youths interested in motorcycle repair.
Now a motorcycle mechanic, Lutaya was trained through the Child-Centered Community Development program implemented by Share an Opportunity Uganda with support from Help a Child Netherlands.
He explains that before he joined the program, he used to do nothing but all this changed when he decided to be part of the youth group where he was empowered with skills in repairing motorcycles.
“These skills helped me identify my purpose in the community and motivated me to start up my business.”
He adds, “When I got the skills of repairing motorcycles, I opened up a motor repairing shop to empower other youth with the skills I had learnt from my youth group in order to improve their livelihoods. I now employ two youth, Peter and Godfrey.”
Lutaya, a father of two children proudly expressed his joy and satisfaction as he narrated that his two employees are now able to take care of their families due to the existence of the business.
Lutaya plans to open up another shop when the country’s economy stabilizes.
