Share An Opportunity Uganda (SAO Uganda) with support from the Interchurch Organisation for Development Cooperation (ICCO) is implementing the Civic Engagement Alliance (CEA) project in Awach and Lotuke sub counties, Abim District.
The Civic Engagement Alliance is a lobby and advocacy project with a focus on access to inclusive markets by small holder farmers targeting Women,Youths and Persons with disabilities of Awach, Lotuke and Morulem subcounties in Abim District Karamoja sub- region.
Program Implementation
The programme is implemented in three pathways of:
1)Creating space for civil society organization.
2) Realizing inclusive and sustainable food systems.
3) Small-producers empowerment and access to markets.
SAO is implementing path way 3 with an overall goal of improving livelihood of women, youth and PWDs in Abim through connecting them to inclusive markets for selected value chain(Maize, Cassava & millet) enterprises.
The project also aims at ensuring that: 1) duty bearers implement pro-poor value chain plans and policies, 2) small holder farmers access viable markets for the value chain and 3) Small holder farmers produce marketable products within the value chain.
The Convening and Convincing programme provides farmers’ groups with the opportunity to engage with development actors and local leaders for the implementation of effective policies and guidelines within these value chains.
This programme supports dialogue between duty bearers and small scale farmers to enable them discuss issues affecting access to inclusive markets and where necessary; support them to come together and form associations they can use to strengthen their bargaining power.
