Before joining SAO Uganda, I spent eight years working as a registered midwife at Mulago National Referral Hospital. I gained enough experience in bedside nursing and I desired to explore pursue a career in community health. I came to realize that if diseases were to be prevented at household and community level then the number of sick people coming to hospitals would be lessened. Healthy people would engage themselves in the productive work for improved livelihoods.

My dream came to pass when I was called SAO Uganda in 1997, to serve as a Primary Health Care facilitator. By then SAO refocus was mainly on Child sponsorship and Family capacity building programs, so I was challenged to start a PHC program. Being compassionate in this aspect, I decided to enrich my skills by enrolled for relevant program courses and trainings. With my support as a PHC facilitator, SAO organization engaged itself in training of the Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) who further reached out to their respective communities to educate people about prevention of communicable diseases, personal hygiene, water and sanitation, proper nutrition, importance of family planning, child/maternal care and assisting pregnant women to have safe delivery.
To-date most of SAO community trained cadres both in eastern and central Uganda have made a difference in the lives of children, youths, adults and am very proud that SAO Uganda is a significant contributor to the health sector in fostering “Prevention is better than cure”.

I have now served at SAO for 17 years in different capacities and am currently coordinating Child Sponsorship & Advocacy program. I hold a certificate in registered midwife, Dip in SWASA and Bachelor degree in Adult and Community Education, Kyambogo University.
