From the Garden to the Home: How Farming Is Changing Lives in Gwetom A

In Gwetom A, Kaberamaido District, farmers are using improved agricultural practices, savings groups and collective marketing to strengthen their livelihoods and support their families. Through SAO Uganda’s interventions, 13 farmer groups with 233 members have gained skills, established savings structures and embraced farming as a business. For farmers like Arago Teddy, these changes are helping improve household income, support children’s education and strengthen community involvement in promoting child rights and well-being.

SAO Uganda through its Child-Centred Community Development (CCCD) Project with support from Help a Child Africa (HACA), reached 260 children, caregivers, pregnant women, and adolescent girls during a two-day integrated health outreach in Lorengecora Sub-county, Napak District. The outreach provided essential services including immunization, antenatal care, deworming, malaria testing, growth monitoring, nutrition counseling, and health education, bringing critical healthcare closer to vulnerable communities while promoting healthier families and improving maternal and child health outcomes.
